For my project I chose a quote from the song "Scarlett Begonias" by the Grateful Dead. I have always liked this quote because of the picture that comes to mind of the sun being blue and the sky being yellow. The blue sun in this picture comes from a crayon painting I did on a small square canvas. I took a picture of it and cropped it onto a picture of yellow sky i found on the internet in Photoshop. I then added the text quote and made it into a spiral pattern in the center of the sun.
I love the use of the crayons mixed with the background. The text works very well with the image and has an inspiring feeling.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy how you incorporated the melted crayons with the quote. I think the idea is really creative and different. I like how you left the yellow behind the quote to differentiate the sun from the sunset image behind it. It creates a difference in the background and causes attention and my eye to go to the quote which is the important part of the assignment.
ReplyDeleteThe crayons are great... it feels very youthful and hand-made... and yet they are melting into the sky. The text forms a caption to the image in a way that the image already provides... that really interesting inversion of colors. I wonder if abstracting the text somehow might have made the words more significant to the image... like, if the words named the crayons, or if they also disappeared in the color wash of the crayons melting away like that. Right now they feel mostly like a caption to the image and doesn't really ADD new meaning. It's super interesting to look at... it doesn't feel digitally made and I like that a lot.
